I always knew my mother-in-law, Kathryn, had no boundaries. What I did not know was that my husband, Austin, was helping her search our bedroom.

After every visit, my underwear drawer looked disturbed. Clothes were refolded, items moved, and private things appeared in the wrong places. When I confronted Austin, he dismissed me.

“She’s my mother,” he said. “She has every right to check our home.”

Then I found messages on our family tablet.

Kathryn had been reporting everything she discovered—my mail, medications, clothes, and financial papers. Austin had instructed her to search my desk and dresser because he claimed I was hiding money.
