The College Student Who Helped Us at 2 AM Appeared on the News Years Later

Years ago, my wife and I were driving home from a party when our car suddenly stopped working in a remote area.
It was two in the morning. There were no mobile phones then, no nearby houses, and almost no traffic. We sat inside the dark car, frightened and unsure what to do.
About an hour later, a young college student pulled over. He checked our car, then offered to drive us into town.
When we arrived safely, I tried to pay him.
He smiled and said, “No need. I’m happy to help.”
We never forgot his kindness.
Many years later, my wife called me in tears.
“Turn on the news,” she said.
There he was.
The student who had helped us was now a doctor. During a terrible highway accident, he had stopped his car and rushed toward the wreckage while everyone else stood back.
He pulled two children from a burning vehicle and returned for their mother. Tragically, he was badly injured during the rescue.
We contacted the hospital and visited him during recovery.
When I reminded him of that night years earlier, he smiled weakly.
“I don’t remember,” he admitted. “I’ve helped many stranded people.”
That answer moved me most.
His kindness had never been about recognition. Helping others was simply who he was.
