My Date Ordered a $150 Lobster Dinner on Our First Date and Then Refused to Pay – Moments Later, Karma Struck Her Right There in Front of Me

At 32, I thought I could spot a disaster before it happened. Turns out, I just really wanted this date to go well.

I matched with Chloe on a dating app. She was witty, confident, and suggested we do something “special” for our first date. Before agreeing, I made one thing clear: I always split the bill on first dates. She replied, “That’s fair!”

So I relaxed.

She picked a fancy seafood restaurant, showed up looking amazing, and at first, everything felt easy. We laughed, talked, and I started thinking maybe this could actually go somewhere.

Then the check arrived.

Her lobster, wine, dessert, and extras made up most of the bill. I smiled and reminded her we’d agreed to split it.

She looked at me and said, “I’m not paying. You’re the man. Men pay.”

I thought she was joking.

She wasn’t.

When I stood my ground, she acted like I was embarrassing myself. Then our waitress stepped in and calmly revealed Chloe had pulled the same stunt there before—with another guy.

That changed everything.

We split the bill by individual meal. Chloe’s card was declined the first time, but eventually it went through. She left angry. I left relieved.

Later, over ice cream with my sister, I realized something important:

It wasn’t about dinner.

It was about respect.

And for once, I chose mine.
