I Had to Leave My Son’s Wedding — They Tried to Charge Me Extra for My Meal

I recently attended my son’s wedding to a woman I barely knew. Since they live in another state, I met her only days before the ceremony. From the start, there was tension — she even mocked me for being vegan.
Still, I went for my son. At the reception, there was no assigned seating, so I sat at a table marked “vegan option.” When the food arrived, I was shocked — the vegetables looked spoiled. I asked for a simple salad, but the waitress said I’d have to pay extra because only one vegetarian meal had been ordered.
Feeling embarrassed and unwelcome, I decided to leave. That’s when my son stopped me and said, “You’ll regret this, Mom. If you leave now, forget us.” I was stunned.
I told him the truth — I came for him, but I wouldn’t stay where I felt disrespected and served inedible food. Then I left.
Days later, my daughter-in-law called, blaming me for ruining the reception and expecting an apology. I refused.
Now it’s been two weeks, and my son hasn’t reached out. I don’t want to lose him… but I won’t lose my dignity either.
