My mother-in-law Angela had a talent for making every major moment about herself.
At our wedding, she somehow replaced my father and walked me down the aisle. During our honeymoon, she “accidentally” booked the same resort. Then she moved in next door.
When my husband and I announced our pregnancy, she became unbearable. She came to appointments, signed us up for parenting classes, and inserted herself into everything.
Then, during our gender reveal, the second pink confetti exploded into the air, Angela raised a champagne glass and shouted:

I was furious.
