Years ago, my wife and I were returning from a late-night party when our car suddenly broke down in a remote area.<\/p>\n

It was nearly two in the morning. Mobile phones weren\u2019t common yet, and there were no houses or businesses nearby. We waited inside the car, growing more frightened with every passing minute.<\/p>\n

About an hour later, a young college student pulled over. He tried to restart the car, but when that failed, he offered to drive us into town.<\/p>\n

When we arrived safely, I offered him money for fuel and his time.<\/p>\n

He refused.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust help someone else someday,\u201d he said with a smile.<\/p>\n

We never saw him again, but we never forgot his kindness.<\/p>\n

Many years later, my wife called me in tears and told me to turn on the television.<\/p>\n

The young man was on the news.<\/p>\n

He had become a doctor. That morning, he had witnessed a terrible highway accident and stopped immediately. While others filmed from a distance, he ran toward a burning vehicle and rescued two children.<\/p>\n

Then he went back for their mother.<\/p>\n

He succeeded\u2014but suffered serious injuries himself.<\/p>\n

We contacted the hospital and visited him during his recovery. When we reminded him of the night he rescued us, he smiled faintly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t remember,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI\u2019ve helped many stranded people.\u201d<\/p>\n

That answer moved us most.<\/p>\n

His kindness had never been performed for praise. Helping strangers was simply who he had always been.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
