When I was two years old, my mother died in a car accident and my father disappeared from my life.

My maternal grandparents took me in without hesitation.

They weren’t wealthy, but they gave me everything they could. Grandpa worked extra hours, Grandma helped me with homework, and both of them kept telling me I could build a better future.

Because of their support, I was accepted into a top college.

Graduation day was supposed to be the happiest day of all.

I couldn’t wait to see them sitting in the audience.

But when they arrived, I walked toward them and said, loud enough for nearby people to hear, “You need to leave.”

Grandma’s face fell.

Grandpa looked completely confused.

Then I smiled.

I pointed toward a side entrance where a staff member was waiting.

I had secretly arranged for them to sit in the reserved family section right beside the stage.

They thought I was throwing them out.

Instead, I was moving them to the best seats in the building.

Grandma immediately started crying.

When my name was called, I walked across the stage and looked directly at them.

I knew that diploma had my name on it.

But every sacrifice behind it belonged to them.

After the ceremony, I handed Grandpa the diploma and said, “This is yours too.”

He hugged me without saying a word.
