Shock stole her breath. Anger rushed in just as fast. She turned to leave.<\/p>\n

She was cold, so I gave her that sweater you never liked. Her pants were torn, so I offered her a pair you haven\u2019t fit into in years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The room felt heavy.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was about to leave,\u201d he said quietly, \u201cthen she turned back and asked me something.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat?\u201d his wife asked.<\/p>\n
