One day, my stepdad took my six-year-old sister Lisa for a walk. When she came back, she was covered in dirt and crying hysterically, repeating, \u201cI\u2019ll never forget what he did!\u201d<\/p>\n

My stepdad wasn\u2019t with her, which made everything feel even more confusing. We waited anxiously until he finally came home hours later.<\/p>\n

I went to confront him, ready to demand an explanation\u2014but I stopped when I saw what he was holding: a toy character from Lisa\u2019s favorite collection.<\/p>\n

He explained what had happened. While they were out, Lisa had spotted the toy in a store and desperately wanted it. But my mom had been very clear that he shouldn\u2019t waste money on more toys.<\/p>\n

When he refused, Lisa threw a full meltdown\u2014rolling on the ground, crying, and refusing to move. He stayed firm at first, remembering my mom\u2019s rules. But seeing how heartbroken she was eventually got to him.<\/p>\n

So he quietly went back to the store and bought it anyway.<\/p>\n

When Mom found out, she was upset. But my stepdad didn\u2019t blame Lisa or make excuses\u2014he simply took the scolding himself.<\/p>\n

Later, I told him I felt bad and even offered to pay him back for the toy on Lisa\u2019s behalf. He just smiled and declined.<\/p>\n
