I tried to ignore it, paid for my groceries, and hurried out.<\/p>\n

But as I walked down the quiet street, I heard footsteps behind me.<\/p>\n

Everything seemed to freeze\u2014the cold air, the streetlights, the confused look on the man\u2019s face.<\/p>\n

Then the cashier turned to him sharply. \u201cSir, I told you not to leave the store. Police are on their way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man insisted it was a misunderstanding, but minutes later officers arrived and handled the situation calmly, offering support through a community mental health program.<\/p>\n

The cashier walked me home afterward, keeping a respectful distance.<\/p>\n

Before leaving, he simply said, \u201cWe try our best to keep everyone safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
