When I told my ex I might<\/em> be pregnant, he lit up instantly.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, he was attentive in ways I\u2019d never seen before\u2014bringing me snacks, rubbing my feet, talking about how our lives were about to \u201cchange forever.\u201d I thought it was sweet. I thought maybe this was the moment he was finally stepping up.<\/p>\n

Then I took the test.<\/p>\n

Negative.<\/p>\n

I told him, expecting a normal reaction\u2014maybe relief, maybe disappointment. But instead, he just stared at me. Quiet. Blank.<\/p>\n

Then he said, almost carefully,
