When my five-year-old first whispered, \u201cMommy, the big man comes into my room at night,\u201d I smiled and told him it was probably just a dream.<\/p>\n

He insisted it wasn’t.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe stands by my closet and watches me.\u201d<\/p>\n

I checked every corner of the room, left on a nightlight, and even searched under the bed. Nothing. Eventually, I convinced myself it was an overactive imagination.<\/p>\n

But the nightmares didn’t stop.<\/p>\n

Then, a few weeks later, I woke up at exactly 3:07 a.m. to a loud crashing sound coming from his room.<\/p>\n

My heart nearly stopped as I sprinted down the hallway.<\/p>\n

When I burst through the door, my son was sitting upright in bed, pointing toward the closet with trembling hands.<\/p>\n

The sliding door was wide open.<\/p>\n

On the floor lay a pile of fallen boxes and an old suitcase that had somehow crashed down from the top shelf.<\/p>\n

As I stepped closer to clean up the mess, I noticed something hidden behind them\u2014a narrow panel in the back wall that had come loose.<\/p>\n

Curious, I pulled it aside.<\/p>\n

Behind it was a tiny crawlspace connecting to the unfinished attic above our garage.<\/p>\n

The next morning, a contractor confirmed someone could have accessed it years ago before renovations sealed the outside entrance.<\/p>\n

There was no mysterious stranger living there, and no evidence anyone had been inside recently.<\/p>\n

Still, I never forgot the way my son looked at me that night.<\/p>\n
