For my birthday, my husband gave me a bottle of shower gel in a scent he knew I absolutely hated. We weren’t struggling financially, so it felt careless\u2014almost insulting.<\/p>\n
Angry and hurt, I cried, opened the bottle, and poured every last drop down the toilet.<\/p>\n
That evening, he walked through the door with the biggest smile on his face.<\/p>\n
“So…” he asked excitedly, “did you find it?”<\/p>\n
I stared at him.<\/p>\n
“Find what?”<\/p>\n
His smile disappeared.<\/p>\n
“The little velvet pouch inside the bottle.”<\/p>\n
My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n
He rushed to the bathroom and looked into the empty trash can before turning back to me, completely confused.<\/p>\n
“I carefully sealed it inside the packaging,” he whispered. “It had your grandmother’s ring reset into a necklace because you always said you were afraid of losing it on your finger.”<\/p>\n
I burst into tears.<\/p>\n
Without saying another word, he grabbed a flashlight and started taking apart the plumbing under the sink while I called a plumber in total panic.<\/p>\n
For two agonizing hours, we searched.<\/p>\n
Finally, the plumber held up a tiny waterproof pouch that had become trapped in the pipe instead of washing away completely.<\/p>\n
Inside was the delicate necklace and a handwritten note:<\/p>\n
“I picked the fragrance because I knew you’d open it immediately.
