My DIL Treated My Home Like a Free Restaurant — Until I Finally Taught Her a Harsh Lesson

My grandkids, 7 and 9, come to my house every day after school. Since my daughter-in-law doesn’t cook, they eat lunch with me until she picks them up. She insists everything be gluten-free and even gives me a weekly menu. At first, I didn’t mind—but after six months, it felt like running a free restaurant.
Today, she stormed in angry because the kids got sick, yelling at me to “watch your hygiene.” I just smiled.
For the past two weeks, I haven’t been cooking at all—I’ve been ordering from the same gluten-free restaurant she always uses. When I told her, I said, “Maybe it’s your favorite place that made them sick. I’m tired of adjusting to your demands.”
She went silent, then left. Now she refuses to bring the kids over. Later, my son called and scolded me, saying I should be doing more as their grandmother.
I’ve helped every day for months—but somehow, I’m the problem.
