My Husband Had an Affair With Our Nanny—Then Tried to Destroy Her Career

I’m 29, my husband is 40, and we have a one-year-old son. Nearly a year ago, we hired a wonderful nanny, Lucia, through an agency. She was caring, responsible, and our son adored her.

A few months ago, I noticed she and my husband were constantly texting. It wasn’t about childcare—it was jokes, casual conversations, and messages that made me uncomfortable. When I asked about it, he brushed it off, and I convinced myself I was overthinking.

Then I came home early one day and found them sitting unusually close together. The moment they saw me, they jumped apart. That night, my husband admitted they had been having an affair.

I was devastated, but the worst was still to come.

When I contacted the agency to report what had happened, they told me my husband had already called them. He had falsely claimed Lucia was unreliable, which got her fired. He says he did it to “protect our family” because things had become complicated, but it feels like he was only trying to cover up his own betrayal.

Now I’m thinking about ending the marriage. I feel betrayed by the two people I trusted most around my child.

My husband insists I’m overreacting and says leaving him would mean “throwing away our family” over a “misunderstanding.”

But I can’t stop wondering—is this really something I should forgive, or is walking away the right decision?
