My Missing Husband Returned After 17 Years—On My Wedding Day

I met Thomas when we were only 15. By 18, we were married, and soon afterward, I gave birth to our daughter while he served in the army.
When Thomas finally returned home at 22, we believed our difficult years were behind us. But only a week later, he went hiking in the mountains with several former army friends—and never came back.
Search teams found no trace of him.
For years, I waited. Eventually, Thomas was legally declared dead. I raised our daughter alone and struggled to rebuild my life.
At 36, I met Robert. He was patient, kind, and never pressured me to forget Thomas. We later had a son, and when I turned 39, we decided to marry.
On our wedding day, a police car suddenly stopped outside my house.
Thomas stepped out.
He was thin, scarred, and barely able to walk.
Everyone froze as he whispered, “I tried to come home.”
Thomas explained that he had fallen during the mountain trip and suffered a severe head injury. A remote family found him, but he had lost his memory and carried no identification. Years later, fragments of his past returned, leading authorities to finally identify him.
My wedding was postponed.
Thomas didn’t demand that I return to him. He only wanted to meet the daughter he remembered as a baby.
Robert stood beside me through everything.
In the end, Thomas became part of our family again—not as my husband, but as the father who had spent 17 years trying to remember the way home.
