My Boyfriend Left Saying He Needed a Break and Ghosted Me for a Month—Yesterday He Came Back and Yelled, ‘I Knew You Would Do That, Traitor!’

I never believed in “relationship pauses.” To me, you’re either together or you’re not. But when my boyfriend Jack said he needed six weeks to “work on himself,” I let him go without a fight.
At first, I was heartbroken. I texted, called, and checked in, but he ignored every message. Eventually, I accepted what everyone else already saw — he had ghosted me.
To distract myself, I started volunteering at an animal shelter. That’s where I met an old senior dog with sad eyes and the gentlest heart. A few days later, I brought him home. Since Jack was badly allergic to dogs, getting one had never been possible before.
Then six weeks later, Jack suddenly texted: “I’m ready to unpause our relationship.”
The next day he showed up with flowers, acting like nothing had happened. But the moment he saw the dog, he exploded.
Turns out, the entire “break” was actually a loyalty test. He admitted he disappeared to see whether I’d stay exactly the same while he was gone — including never getting a dog. He even claimed he was planning to propose.
I told him to leave.
Now I have a peaceful life, a sweet dog, and one important lesson: real love doesn’t come with tests, games, or emotional experiments.
