According to research on over 2,000 adults, lack of sleep raises cortisol, the stress hormone, worsening inflammation and triggering skin issues such as redness, eczema, psoriasis, and dull complexion. Reduced blood flow during poor sleep leaves skin looking tired and lifeless, while disrupted nighttime repair slows regeneration.
Sleep deprivation also affects nail strength, with many reporting brittle nails due to impaired repair processes. Hormonal imbalances caused by poor sleep increase hunger and cravings, contributing to weight gain and bloating. Body temperature regulation may suffer as well, leading to cold hands and feet.
