My Mother-in-Law Tried Snooping in My Bedroom Only to End up Screaming and Feeling Embarrassed

I’ve been married to Richard for three years, and our life together is mostly happy — except for one constant issue: his mother, Monica.

To my face, she’s all hugs and sweet nicknames. But behind my back, she constantly criticizes me. At a family BBQ, she even brought a “backup pie” because she wasn’t sure guests would like my cooking. During our housewarming, I overheard her suggesting to Richard that he’d rushed into marrying me and should’ve considered another woman from church instead.

As annoying as that was, what really bothered me was her obsession with getting into our bedroom.

Three months ago, during a dinner party, Monica ignored the guest bathroom and went upstairs to use the one in our master bedroom. When I followed her, I found her nowhere near the bathroom — just standing by our dresser. She claimed she was “confused,” but I knew better.

After it happened again, I told Richard I was installing a lock. He agreed — but kept the key. So I suggested putting glitter on the doorknob as a test.

Later that night, we found Monica standing outside our locked bedroom door — covered head to toe in gold glitter.

Instead of admitting what she’d been doing, she accused me of humiliating her. Richard was upset too, saying I’d embarrassed his family.

But all I did was protect our privacy — and finally catch her snooping.
