When Bitterness Knocks at the Door, Joy Finds Another Way to Shine

My husband’s bitter ex-wife has a habit of trying to disrupt our plans. One weekend, just as we were about to leave for a long-awaited getaway, the doorbell rang. She had dropped off the kids without warning and disappeared.

At first, I was furious. Our bags were packed, and it felt like she had once again managed to steal our peace. But then I paused and thought—why let her win?

Instead of canceling, I called a trusted neighborhood babysitter the kids loved. She happily agreed to stay with them for the weekend. With that solved, my husband and I stuck to our plan and drove to a cozy cabin a friend had offered us before.

That night, we sat under the stars, roasting marshmallows and laughing like teenagers. Meanwhile, the kids had their own fun-filled weekend of pizza, games, and movies.

By Sunday, everyone was happy. She may have thought she ruined our trip—but all she did was push us to be creative.

Peace isn’t about avoiding problems. It’s about refusing to let anyone steal your joy.
