The DNA Test That Revealed My Family’s Biggest Secret

Last year, I took a DNA test just to learn more about my ethnicity. I had no idea it would completely change my life.

Out of curiosity, I convinced my parents to take the test too. When the results came back, I was stunned. My dad wasn’t my biological father. The strange part was that I’ve always looked so much like him that I first assumed I must have been switched at birth.

But then my mom’s results showed she was my biological mother, which made the situation even more confusing.

A few months later, I received an email from the DNA company saying I had new genetic matches. When I checked the results, I found two relatives: one listed as my uncle with a 25% match, and another as my cousin with a 12.5% match. After some digging, I discovered that my uncle’s brother was actually my biological father.

I found him on Facebook and sent a message with an old photo of my mom from 1969 in Bucharest. When he finally replied, he wrote, “Yes, this is true. You are as beautiful as your mother. My God, it has been 50 years. Are you my daughter?”

We eventually met, and the resemblance between him and the man who raised me is uncanny.

To this day, I don’t know if my parents ever knew the truth. I’ve decided never to tell them. The secret still leaves me stunned.
