The Date Who Disappeared… for the Right Reason

I went on a date with a guy, and honestly, everything started off great. We ordered a lot of food, were talking, laughing—it felt easy.
Then his phone rang.
He said he needed to take it and stepped outside. I didn’t think much of it at first. But ten minutes passed… then twenty… then thirty.
He never came back.
I checked outside—no sign of him. Nothing. That sinking feeling hit me hard: I’d been ditched. Just like that. I felt embarrassed, angry, and honestly a bit stupid for thinking it was going well. I paid the bill myself and went home replaying everything in my head.
Later that evening, my phone rang. It was him.
I didn’t even let him speak—I just started going off. But he cut me off and explained.
While he was outside on the phone, an elderly woman collapsed right in front of him, struggling to breathe. He’s a doctor. Instinct took over.
He stopped a car, got her inside, and rushed her to the hospital because waiting for an ambulance would have taken too long. Then he stayed there for hours until doctors confirmed she would be okay.
I just… froze.
All that anger disappeared in a second. And then I started crying.
