My Son’s Belly Hurt Every Time He Visited My MIL — and the Truth Left Me Speechless

My name is Valerie, 34, living in Washington with my husband Tom and our 7-year-old son, Henry. Our weekends used to be filled with warm family dinners at my mother-in-law Jackie’s house — she’s passionate about organic food, and Henry loved helping her in the garden.
But over time, something changed. Every time Henry ate there, he got sick — stomach aches, nausea, even vomiting. At first, I ignored it, but the pattern became impossible to deny.
I took him to a doctor, and after tests, we learned he was likely reacting to something in the food — even organic produce can carry residues that sensitive kids react to.
I tried to gently tell Jackie and suggested bringing Henry’s food from home. She took it as an accusation and got furious. Things escalated, and now we barely speak. My husband is caught in the middle, and family dinners have stopped.
Henry keeps asking for his grandma, and it breaks my heart.
Now I’m left wondering — did I do the right thing? I was only trying to protect my son, but it feels like I’m losing everything else in the process.
