My MIL Excluded Us From the Family Trip Because We Don’t Have Kids, So We Made Her Regret It

My husband and I have been married for five years, and every holiday his mother plans a big family trip. This year, we went to ask if we’d be joining everyone again, expecting the usual invite.
Instead, my mother-in-law looked at us and said we weren’t included.
Confused, my husband asked why. She calmly explained that this year’s trip was to Disneyland, and since it was “for the kids” and we didn’t have children, we weren’t invited.
My husband stared at her in disbelief.
“But we’re still family,” he said.
She looked him right in the eyes and replied, “It’s a family trip filled with family activities.”
I stood there speechless.
My husband tried explaining that we planned to have children someday when we were ready, but she cut him off and coldly said:
“When you give me grandkids, then you can come on the family vacation.”
At that moment, my husband was heartbroken. For years he had defended his mother’s behavior, but now even he couldn’t deny the truth—she wasn’t the loving woman he always claimed she was.
So instead of begging for inclusion, we planned our own vacation and had an amazing time together.
Then, while we were away, we found out the most exciting news of our lives:
I was pregnant.
When we shared the news, my MIL’s attitude changed overnight. Suddenly she treated my husband like the favorite child again and started talking excitedly about future family vacations and how involved she’d be.
But my husband shut it down immediately.
He told her, “You excluded us before. Now exclude us from all future plans too. We’ll raise our child our way, and you won’t be making decisions for our family.”
Sometimes people only value you when you have something they want—but by then, it may already be too late.
