My Ex Became My Boss at the Worst Possible Moment

I walked into a job interview and froze when I saw who was sitting behind the desk — my ex. The breakup had ended badly, and judging by the smirk on his face, he hadn’t forgotten either.

He leaned back in his chair and said, “Well, hello there. What brings you here?”

I stayed calm and acted professional while he flipped through my resume like he was already judging me. Then he suddenly asked, “Are you sure you’ll be comfortable working here?” The way he said it made it sound less like a question and more like a warning.

I clenched my hands under the table but replied, “Absolutely. I always separate work from personal matters.”

For a second he just stared at me, then grabbed a pen and scribbled something down. Finally he said, “Alright, I’ll take you on for the trial period. Let’s see what kind of professional you are.”

I was already heading toward the door when he casually added, “By the way… I’m single.”

I didn’t even turn around. I pretended not to hear him and kept walking, but honestly, my stomach was in knots the entire way home.

Now I’m left wondering if taking this job is a terrible idea… or if I’m stronger than I think.
