He Wasn’t Excited About Becoming a Dad — He Wanted A Way Home

When I told my ex I might be pregnant, he instantly transformed into the perfect partner. He brought me snacks, rubbed my feet, checked on me constantly, and kept talking about how our lives were about to “change forever.” I honestly thought he was excited about starting a family together.
Then I took the test.
Negative.
I expected him to feel relieved or at least react normally, but instead he just stared at me in silence before quietly asking, “Could you take another one? Maybe a different brand?”
That response immediately felt strange.
After pushing for answers, the truth finally came out — he wasn’t excited about becoming a father at all. He wanted a baby because he believed it would convince his parents to let him move back into their house and finally treat him like a “real adult.”
In his mind, having a child was somehow proof that he had matured and deserved another chance at living under their roof. He genuinely thought a baby would fix his life, repair his image, and solve all his problems overnight.
That was the moment I realized he wasn’t thinking about parenthood, responsibility, or our future together.
He was thinking about himself.
