I Gave My Last Dollar to a Stranger and Saw Him Again at My Prom

Living with Mom and Grandma was tough, but love made it enough. I dreamed of a beautiful prom dress to feel like I belonged.
One morning, they surprised me with an envelope. “We’ve saved for your dress,” Mom said. I hugged them, thrilled.
On the bus to the shop, clutching the money, I saw a panicked man, Rick, tell ticket checkers he’d forgotten his wallet rushing to his sick daughter at the hospital. They threatened a fine and police.
My heart broke. I thought of the dress… then stood. “I’ll pay his fine.”
Rick teared up. “You saved me. Thank you.”
I went home empty-handed. Mom was furious: “He could’ve tricked you!” Grandma hugged me: “Kindness comes back.”
Prom night, I wore an old dress, feeling out of place among sparkling gowns—until Rick tapped my shoulder. His daughter Haley, now healthy, beamed beside him.
He handed me a gift box. Inside: the most stunning dress I’d ever seen.
“You helped when no one else would,” he said. “Now shine.”
I changed and entered prom like a princess. That night proved Grandma right: kindness returns, beautifully, when least expected.
