My Husband Refused to Show Up for Our Son on Prom Night Because of His Girlfriend – I Was About to Yell at Him When My MIL Said, ‘You Need to Know the Truth About Her’

My husband refused to support our son on prom night because he disapproved of his girlfriend, Yuki, who uses a wheelchair. He claimed it wasn’t about her disability—but his anger said otherwise. Our 17-year-old son, Lucas, was heartbroken. Yuki was kind, smart, and made him happier than I’d seen him in years.
On prom night, my husband stayed home while I helped Lucas get ready. When Yuki arrived in her blue dress, radiant and nervous, I nearly cried. After they left, my mother-in-law showed up unexpectedly. She sat me down and said, “You need to know the truth about her.”
She told me that two years earlier, my husband had been involved in an accident with a girl on a bike—Yuki. He panicked, fled, and had carried guilt ever since. According to her, that guilt was why he opposed the relationship.
But something still felt off.
Days later, I followed my husband after another late night and tracked him to a roadside motel. Disguised as hotel staff, I walked into his room—and found him laughing with another woman.
It was Yuki’s mother.
I heard everything: the two-year affair, his plan to divorce me, and his attempts to break our children apart to protect their secret.
When I confronted him, he confessed—then I asked him to leave. I filed for divorce with proof.
Lucas and Yuki stepped back, not out of anger, but exhaustion.
I’m not okay—but I’m proud. I chose truth over denial.
