I Went on a Date with My Brother’s Friend – Turned out It Was a Trap

My brother Adam set me up on a date with his friend Stewart, promising he was successful and “the total package.” Against my better judgment, I agreed. At first, everything seemed perfect—Stewart was charming, the restaurant was elegant, and the night felt straight out of a movie.
Then the bill came.
Stewart’s card was declined. Not once—multiple times. His confidence vanished, replaced by frustration and embarrassment. He asked if I could cover it, but I couldn’t afford a place like that. The situation escalated quickly, with the manager and security getting involved and threatening to call the police.
That’s when I discovered the truth.
The fancy car? Rented. The “money”? Supposedly sent by my brother—but never actually transferred. Adam had set the whole thing up as a prank.
Humiliated and furious, I called him. He showed up laughing, paid the bill, and acted like it was all just harmless fun.
It wasn’t.
Stewart apologized sincerely, but I realized the real problem wasn’t him—it was my brother. That night didn’t just ruin a date.
It showed me I needed boundaries.
Because some “jokes” cross the line—and once they do, things don’t go back to normal.
