My MIL Told My 10-Year-Old Daughter She’s Not Part of the ‘Real Family,’ Then Banned Her from Our New Car – I Didn’t Let It Slide

Living with her mother-in-law Susan was supposed to be temporary while she and her husband Mark saved for a home. At first, Susan acted kind toward her 10-year-old step-granddaughter Lily, but behind closed doors, her true feelings slowly surfaced. She constantly reminded Lily she wasn’t “real family” because she wasn’t biologically related to Mark.

When Susan excitedly assumed they were expecting a “real grandchild,” they played the security footage exposing every hateful thing she had said.

Mark then stood up to his mother, declaring Lily was his daughter and if Susan couldn’t accept that, she was no longer family. The couple moved out shortly after, cut Susan off completely, and later sent her one final photo: Lily holding her new baby brother with a note reading, “From the family you tried to split.”
