I Canceled My Sister’s Free Childcare—Her Cruel Words Cost Her My Support

My sister and I were always close—or so I believed. When she had kids, I happily became her go-to babysitter. For five years, I showed up every weekend and anytime she needed help, never asking for anything in return. I love her kids, so I never questioned it.
Last week, she asked me to watch them for two weeks while she went to Hawaii for her anniversary. Of course, I agreed.
But yesterday, everything changed.
While at her place, I overheard her talking to her husband. She laughed and said I’ve always done whatever she wants, calling me “like a little lapdog” who craves her affection—even though she feels nothing for me. Then she added that I probably babysit to make up for my “terrible love life.”
I was shocked and hurt.
I walked out and told her if that’s how she sees me, she can find someone else. Since then, she’s been calling nonstop, offering to pay me if I come back and help.
Now I’m torn—should I go back and accept payment, or finally step away and let her handle things on her own?
