He Dropped to One Knee — But His Words Changed Everything

I got pregnant, gave birth to a beautiful daughter, and truly believed my life was falling perfectly into place. My significant other had been supportive during the pregnancy, staying up with me through cravings, doctor visits, and sleepless nights. So when he came over one evening carrying flowers and nervously smiling, I thought I already knew what was about to happen.
Then he got down on one knee.
My heart nearly exploded. I was ready to say yes before he even spoke. I imagined the ring, the proposal, the future we would build together as a family.
But instead, he looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, “I need to tell you something before we go any further.”
Everything inside me froze.
He admitted he had recently discovered he might not be the biological father. Years ago, doctors had told him he would probably never be able to have children naturally. He had secretly taken a DNA test after our daughter was born, terrified and confused, but the results hadn’t come back yet.
I felt crushed, angry, and betrayed that he doubted me instead of talking to me.
Three days later, the results arrived.
He was the father.
That same night, he got down on one knee again — and this time, he finally asked the question I’d been waiting to hear.
