I Met My Girlfriend’s Family for the First Time—Then the $400 Bill Exposed Everything

At 27, I never considered myself lucky in love. Most of my relationships ended quickly, so when I met a woman on a dating app and we instantly connected, it felt different.
After a few great dates, I asked her to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. Soon after, she suggested I meet her family. She casually mentioned that paying for dinner would make a good impression, and I agreed, assuming it would just be her parents.
Instead, I walked into a restaurant packed with her entire extended family. Cousins, aunts, uncles—people I’d never met. No one tried to get to know me. When the menus arrived, they ordered the most expensive items on the menu: premium steaks, seafood, extra sides, and bottles of drinks.
By the end of the meal, the bill reached $400.
When I refused to pay for everyone, my girlfriend became angry, and the entire table turned against me. Then a waiter discreetly slipped me a note: “She’s not who she says she is.”
In private, he explained he had seen her do this before with other dates. Realizing what was happening, I paid only for my meal and quietly left.
Later that night, I searched her name online and found multiple warnings and stories that matched my experience.
For once, I walked away before it cost me more than money.
