Montreal Shooting Victims Identified as Details Emerge About the Suspect’s Motive

Two victims have now been identified in Montreal’s deadly shooting, but many questions remain about why they became caught up in the violence that shocked the city.
The attack in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood left a police officer, a civilian, and the suspected gunman dead. Another officer was seriously injured but remains in stable condition, while a second civilian suffered minor injuries.
One of the victims was 34-year-old Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who had served with the Montreal Police Service since 2021. Officials described him as a dedicated officer who died while protecting the public.
The second victim was 68-year-old Michael Mizrahi, a respected community member known for his generosity and kindness. Family members spent hours searching for answers before his identity was confirmed. Friends and religious leaders remembered him as someone deeply loved by those around him.
Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened and whether the victims were specifically targeted or simply became caught in the attack. Witnesses described scenes of panic as dozens of gunshots rang out, forcing nearby residents and shoppers to take cover.
Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect but are reportedly examining material allegedly linked to him. Officials have stated that the incident is being treated as a domestic case and not a terrorist attack.
As the investigation continues, Montreal is mourning two lives lost and honoring the courage of those who responded. Source:
