Vance Says DOJ Investigating Ilhan Omar, Declines to Rule Out Indictment

Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that the Department of Justice is reviewing allegations involving Rep. Ilhan Omar, marking the clearest public sign yet that the Trump administration may be revisiting past federal inquiries tied to the Minnesota Democrat.
Speaking during a White House briefing, Vance said officials are “going to investigate it” and determine whether any crimes were committed, while stressing that “everyone is entitled to equal justice under the laws.”
The comments follow renewed Republican scrutiny surrounding Omar’s immigration history, campaign finances, and alleged ties to Minnesota’s massive “Feeding Our Future” fraud scandal — one of the largest pandemic fraud cases in U.S. history.
Omar has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and dismissed past accusations as politically motivated attacks. Previous reports indicated a Biden-era DOJ probe into her activities reportedly lost momentum after investigators failed to uncover evidence supporting further charges.
Still, Vance’s remarks are expected to intensify pressure on Omar as Republicans ramp up investigations ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The DOJ has not publicly confirmed an active investigation, and Omar’s office has not yet responded to the latest comments.
